Mazda

A new yet familiar look for Team Sky, celebrating a decade of success.

TYPE DESIGN

Mazda sponsored the 9pm Film on Film4 and needed a new TV ident campaign for the Mazda CX-5, MX-5 RF, and Mazda3. I created a script-type lockup featured in each ident, which drew cinematic parallels to a film and enhanced the storytelling aspect. The type design was also used across social media and the Mazda website. I designed this project at Antidote.

JERSEY

The new jersey brought back Team Sky's signature black aesthetic, complemented by an ocean blue gradient that tied into their Sky Ocean Rescue partnership. The back of the jersey highlighted the iconic blue line, a design element that had been a staple for the past decade. Rider names were repositioned from the back to the sides, creating a sleek, more refined look.

The striking black and blue combination gave the team a fierce and purposeful look, standing out in a sea of colour in the peloton, cutting through the advertising-packed design on most other shirts.

I collaborated closely with Castelli, the kit manufacturer, to ensure the colours, logo placement, and material finish aligned perfectly with the original concept.

The kit won Cycling Weekly's 'best kit of the year'.

BIKE

The road bike featured a predominantly black design with a subtle ocean blue radial gradient. The gradient gradually flowed from a deep blue at the centre to black along the edges, evoking a sense of movement and fluidity while reinforcing the bike’s performance-oriented look.
